Zoeftig sets its sights on a sustainable horizon with the Port of Southampton.

Southampton Cruise Terminal Seating

As the UK’s first commercial port to feature a shore to ship power supply, the Port of Southampton’s newly opened £55 million Horizon Cruise Terminal reflects a new generation of sustainable sea travel.

Deemed to be one of the most environmentally advanced terminals throughout the industry, Horizon offers ‘plug-in’ technology, which enables berthed vessels to switch off their engines and connect to the National Grid. This innovative approach is aiding the port in meeting its emissions targets, whilst improving the surrounding air quality.

As part of the specification process, global seating provider, Zoeftig, was commissioned to manufacture and install over 1,300 of its industry leading inFINITE PU seats, which are manufactured using ISO 14001 accredited processes.

Constructed of 100% recyclable materials and featuring an award winning beamless design that supports a significant reduction in packaging and its overall transport footprint, the inFINITE seating was identified by the client as the only product that could meet each of its environmental, design and performance requirements.

Installed throughout the general waiting areas, upgraded specifications of Zoeftig’s inFINITE seats were also chosen for the VIP lounge, featuring armrests for every seat place, Oiled Walnut veneer backrests, PU seat upholstery and complementary tables, to provide passengers with first class comfort and luxury whilst waiting to board.

As a ground breaking seating solution that offers unlimited design freedom, inFINITE is the only truly modular seating system in the passenger terminal seating sector. Its unique award-winning beamless design provides countless reconfigurability, which supports the client in meeting the ever-changing demands of a modern port environment in a sustainable and effective way, as it can continuously refresh and future-proof the layout of the terminal, without having to procure any additional furniture.

Featuring Zoeftig’s unique high performance engineered Z-form polyurethane and Dura-Z injection moulded structural components, inFINITE delivers the highest standards of ergonomics, convenience and resilience, to withstand high passenger traffic-flow with ease.

Paul Williams, CEO of Zoeftig, said: “As a seating provider positioned at the very forefront of industry advancements, which is committed to not only reducing its own carbon footprint, but supporting clients in achieving increased sustainability, it’s a real privilege to have been specified by Europe’s leading cruise turn-around port to support the flagship construction of its new terminal",

“Horizon reflects a significant step forward for the industry, with every aspect of its construction expertly designed to support its sustainable credentials and we are delighted that our unique inFINITE product has played a pivotal role in supporting the Port of Southampton in achieving these aims.”

"Throughout the project Zoeftig showed it was able to clearly identify and respond to our requirements"
