Turkmenbashi International Seaport sets sail with Zoeftig's Zenky Plus seating solutions
Turkmenbashi International Seaport is the main passenger harbour and cargo port in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, located in the eastern part of the Caspian Sea.
As part of plans to strengthen trading within the area, construction of a new port worth $1.5 billion began in 2013, with the new cargo terminals set to triple Turkmenistan’s cargo-handling capacity to 25-26 million tonnes a year.
In addition to an improved cargo port, the project also included the construction of new ferry and passenger terminals that are expected to serve 300,000 passengers each year.
With such high footfall expected, a durable seating range was required. Zoeftig was commissioned during the construction project to provide its seating solutions throughout the new facility, with installation completed in late 2017 ahead of the port’s official opening in May 2018.
The installation included over 200 Zenky Plus PVC seating solutions and Zenky Plus PVC recliners that are in keeping with the design of the terminal, finished in a stylish and neutral Moonglow colour. To help keep passengers connected during their time in the terminal, under table power units were also incorporated into the seating solutions.
Paul Williams, CEO of Zoeftig, commented: “When we were approached to supply a durable seating solution that would be suitable for the high volume of passengers expected, our popular Zenky range was the perfect fit. At Zoeftig, we always strive to meet client’s needs, and we worked closely with project managers to select suitable power units and a colour and style that would compliment the contemporary design of the terminal. Since opening in May, Turkmenbashi International Seaport has been named as the largest harbour port below sea level, and we are delighted to have been part of such a large and iconic project.”
