When Mackie Ramsay & Taylor Architects were specifying the new state-of-the-art Aberdeen Dental School & Hospital facility at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Scotland, their vision was for a state-of-the-art facility with a modern interior.
For the waiting areas, easily maintainable, stylish seating with wipe-clean upholstery was essential, and Zoeftig’s product was the architects’ first choice. The project also required Zoeftig to design the waiting area seating layout with a specified number of seat places and tables.
Zoeftig’s Zona series of seating was selected in light grey painted mild steel with compact laminate tables and zesty coloured upholstery pads to distinguish waiting areas and add flashes of colour to the otherwise neutral interior. Resilient yet comfortable, Zona was the ideal solution. The range is particularly suited to healthcare environments because it is easy to clean and simple to maintain. The upholstery pads are full-width, removable and can also include an antimicrobial & antibacterial additive.
Jointly funded by the Scottish government and NHS Grampian, the £17.7m purpose built facility opened in January 2010 as part of a 3 year dental improvement plan for the region. Even with the complexity of the project and demanding 9 month timescale, it was delivered on time and £2.5m under budget.
The Scottish Public Health Minister, Shona Robinson called it a “world class centre of excellence.”
